We went to Port Aransas this past weekend with my folks who graciously let us bum off of them for a few days. (I'm guessing it made them relive college weekends when I would eat their food and leave dirty laundry everywhere.) We stayed with them in their camper trailer, which is not exactly roughing it with internet, showers, and air conditioning. We did have to settle for cable television since the satellite dish got knocked off at the Dairy Queen. Jared decided it wasn't so much camping as alternate living.
Port Aransas has a huge sandfest once a year, where artists build these elaborate sand sculptures. It's a great family trip, despite the 7 hour drive. Adam had a blast building his own sandcastles. He doesn't take as much pride in the finished project as other artists. He prefers the process. After building his sandcastles he immediately destroys them and starts again. On Saturday we took a boat to see the dolphins. The one-eyed, 9 1/2 finger, shoeless tour guide cast a net to catch all these sea life for the kids. (You've got to love a job that is shoes optional.) In the middle of the boat was a sea creature petting zoo which Adam loved. Here he is holding a hermit crab.
