So that's how it went down...
Jared shared his Sunday experiences with me this evening during FHE. He recounted how he was pulled out the last portion of Sunday school and asked if would teach the Valiant 9 during the 3rd block. Jared will always say yes to church callings, even if they are just informal, temporary ones. During his stint as a primary teacher he learned a few things. If there is time to kill at the end of a lesson, just find a story and replace the actual names with kids names from the class. After recounting the details of the wise men visiting Jesus, there were still a few precious moments left. Substitutes are not armed with the Jesus in a manger color sheets, so he decided on one more story...this one not included in the manual. It began that there was a little girl that wanted to buy her mom some Christmas shoes. Somehow she could not remember her mom's size, so she traced her footprint on paper while she was sleeping. When she got to the store, the clerk (also named after a student in the class), was able to match the right size to the footprint drawing. However, when the girl went to checkout the shoes cost $105 (apparently her mom is into designer shoes) and the little girl only had $4.23. She wanted to make sure her mom had the shoes in case she met Jesus tonight (I think she suffered from the Bubonic plague.) Another boy in line noticed she was feeling the recession crunch and convinced his dad to fork over the difference. How long into to the lesson do you think it took the kids to realize my sweet husband was totally ganking a Christmas song, albeit with embellishments? That's why there is a manual, and why my husband may be relieved from last minute subbing.

Did he at any point break out into the song? Too funny! Improv at its best.
