Organza Hair Bow Tutorials

I was strolling through the card & party section of Hobby Lobby today and saw these fun organza gift bows. I thought those would be super cute repurposed for Hadley. They were really affordable at .99 each, and the work was already done, excepting adding a ribbon in the middle and sticking on a hairclip. When I got them home, they were slightly (okay, excessively) large for her small head. I decided just to make my own (which ended up being really cheap.) Here's a tutorial on the smaller size.

For small bow, cut twelve 4" ribbons (six each of two different colors)
For large bow, cut sixteen 6" ribbons (8 each of two different colors)
- Arrange strips into a pattern, and then fold the middle section of each one.

Use an alligator clip to hold all those folded middles together. I can only hold four folded ribbons at a time, so I put mine in groups of 4.

Take two alligator clips and place them back to back. This holds two of your groups of 4 together.
Use a 3rd alligator clip to go over all the ribbons. Repeat again to get that third group of four on your bow.

Let the alligator clip hold all your folded middles for you.

Use a wire or string to secure the middle. For this one I used a sandwich bag tie.
For this kind of bow, I prefer wire/sandwich tie.

Wrap wire around the center. Use a 6" strip of ribbon to cover up the wire. Normally, I would use satin or grosgrain in the middle, since the organza is see-through. I didn't have any that matched, so I just tied a knot in the grosgrain, and that seemed to disguise the wire enough for my liking. Trim all your edges at an angle & set the edges.

Supplies:
small bow: 2 different colors of of 5/8" organza ribbon
large bow: 2 different colors of 7/8" organza ribbon
6" coordinating ribbon for middle
4 alligator clips
hot glue gun

Thanks for the TUT, question for you does the fray check change the color at the ends of the ribbon. I have found that problem on some other ribbon. Thank you again.

richngwen - Good point about the fray chek. I used this before with no problem, however, recently I made a few of these organza bows that just turned out awful with fray chek. I think I had cut the tip of this new bottle too low, so a lot came out & really left globs of dried glue on the ends. It was very noticeable, and I had to trim each edge off.
